BELLE GLADE — The 38th annual Glades Festival of Afro Arts was held on Saturday, March 18, at the Lake Shore Park in Belle Glade. This year’s festival kicked off with a parade where Lake Shore Middle School band, Glades Central High School band, local sororities and fraternities and their youth groups, mathletes from the local elementary schools, city and school district officials were showcased.
The festival brought its second Mathletics Vocabulary Competition. This event was organized by LaWanda Harper, Glades Region Math Specialist and Math Coaches from elementary schools (Stephanie McCatty, Sanquetta Cowan, Jessica Michno, Rochelle Gailbrath, Quesona Peterson) which culminated a year long study and test of students math vocabulary.
Each elementary school was represented by three students in second through fifth grades. The entertainment highlights included the Young Choir of the Glades, Belle Voce Middle School Community Choir, Motown Magic, MAC G and Liberty & Favor live band. The planning committee would like to thank the City of Belle Glade, PBSO, School District of Palm Beach County Glades Region and H.E. Hill Foundation for their continued support.
