Friday Seminar: Dr. Roxanne Connelly on May 5

BELLE GLADE — The University of Florida Everglades Research and Education Center invites the public to hear guest speaker Roxanne Connelly, PhD at their Friday Seminar on May 5 at 10:45 a.m. at the Everglades Research and Education Center located at 3200 E Palm Beach Road in Belle Glade.

The topic of the speech will be “Mosquito-borne diseases of importance in Florida”

Dr. Roxanne Connelly received her PhD in Entomology from Louisiana State University, majoring in Medical Entomology with a minor in Epidemiology and Community Health. She works at the University of Florida, IFAS, Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory where she is a Professor and Extension Specialist in Medical Entomology. Responsibilities include maintaining close contact with over 50 mosquito control districts in the state of Florida to address their research and training needs; maintaining contact with the county extension faculty and the public at large by developing educational materials and participating in short courses on topics related to medical entomology. Her research includes biology and identification of mosquitoes, protection from mosquito borne diseases, and arthropod and identification of mosquitoes, protection from mosquito borne diseases, and anthropod pest control methodology. She also mentors graduate students in medical entomology. She is a Past President of the American Mosquito Control Association and the Florida Mosquito Control Association, and is a Board Certified Entomologist of the Entomological Society of America.
