Dr. Mabry McCray is the guest speaker at the Friday, Dec. 2, Seminar at the Everglades REC Conference located at 3200 E Palm Beach Road in Belle Glade. The seminar starts at 10:45 a.m.
Dr. McCray’s specialty is soil fertility and plant nutrition of sugarcane and rice. He received his M.S. in soil science from UF and his B.S. and Ph.D. in agronomy from the University of Georgia . Mabry has been with UF since 2004 after working as a soil scientist for U. S. Sugar Corporation for 13 years. He has authored or co-authored 30 refereed journal articles. The target audiences of Mabry’s research and extension program are sugarcane and rice growers and farm managers in South Florida. The objectives of the program are to promote increased nutrient use efficiency and cost effective use of fertilizers and amendments by providing growers with effective nutrient management information. He is also the director of the Everglades Soil Testing Laboratory at EREC which analyzes over 10,000 soil samples annually. The EREC Soils Lab has the objectives of providing access to reliable soil analytical services and promoting best management practices that will enable growers to achieve optimum economic yields while protecting water quality.
Seminars are free and open to the public. Refreshments are at 10:45 a.m. and the program begins at 11 a.m and reservations are not necessary.
