I’d like to share with you a technology-driven social movement that is stepping in where legislation is failing American voters.
Carpool Vote connects volunteer drivers with anybody who needs a ride to claim their vote.
You can find more information about the project in our brand new website: http://carpoolvote.com/.
In Belle Glade, 19% of the households don’t have a car. This will certainly affect voter’s abilities to get to the polls. Moreover, 12% have moved at least once in the year ahead of the primaries; this makes them less likely to be registered in their current location. Compounding this effect is the younger population- which has fallen behind in voter turnout in recent years-, and the senior population, who might find even harder accessing a polling station without a car. More than a fourth of people living in Belle Glade, are aged 18-24 and 60+.
Our movement now boasts 100 volunteers and counting. Now, we would like to call on your readers to sign up as drivers or riders – so that together we can ensure that no vote goes uncounted.
It would be great to hear what you think of the service, would you be able to let us know where you think this story could best slot into your publication?
Thanks and best wishes,
