Pahokee youth drowns at Ocean Reef Park

PALM BEACH COUNTY — According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, June 25, at 3:04 p.m., Riviera Beach Fire Rescue responded to Ocean Reef in reference to an unresponsive 13 yr. old male, Sylvanus Wiley of Pahokee.

The investigation revealed Sylvanus was swimming and jumping off of rocks in the unguarded area of the beach at Ocean Reef Park and did not resurface. Two beachgoers were able to locate and pull Sylvanus, who was unresponsive, from the water.

Palm Beach County life guards attempted to provide resuscitation. Riviera Beach Fire Rescue transported Sylvanus to St. Mary’s where he was pronounced dead just before 4 p.m.
