PAHOKEE — On June 27, Alzheimer’s Community Care (ACC) in Pahokee staged a ceremony to recognize two of Palm Tran’s contracted Connection operators from MV Transportation Inc. The operators are Betty Lee and Shirley Fordham.

On Feb. 14, off-duty Connection Operator Betty Lee recognized an ACC patient walking alone down a busy street in Belle Glade. The patient had wandered away from a doctor’s office in Belle Glade. Lee stopped to provide assistance. She then contacted Shirley Fordham, MV’s road supervisor for the western communities.

Both Lee and Fordham facilitated the patient’s safe transition to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) deputy. The deputy assisted in getting the patient to safety at the adult daycare center in Pahokee.

The care and dedication these two employees displayed on Feb. 14 is what the CEO of Alzheimer’s Community Care felt compelled to publicly recognize. Lee and Fordham received plaques of acknowledgement for their quick call to action at the ceremony, where City of Pahokee, ACC, PBSO, MV Transportation and Palm Tram officials and leaders were present.
