Red Cross to host ‘Coffee with the Superintendent’

Dr. Robert Avossa

BELLE GLADE – The American Red Cross Greater Palm Beach and Martin County Chapter is pleased to announce the continuation of its popular series in Belle Glade, “Coffee with the Superintendent” on Monday, Dec. 12, 5:30 p.m. at Bank of Belle Glade, 108 S. E. Avenue D, Belle Glade, featuring The Superintendent of The School District of Palm Beach County, Dr. Robert Avossa. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are suggested.
“We have been very pleased with the tremendous response to these informational gatherings,” said Robin Hicks Nunley, Executive Director of the Greater Palm Beach and Martin County Red Cross. “These events facilitate an ongoing conversation between American Red Cross volunteers, leaders in the community, and the general public about the collaborative relationship between Red Cross and the many community partners we serve.”
Attendees will have an opportunity to talk with and personally meet with the Superintendent and discuss future plans for the school district, important upcoming events, and how the School District of Palm Beach County and the American Red Cross Palm Beach and Martin County Chapter work together in providing disaster relief and education.
Prior to becoming the Superintendent of Schools in Palm Beach County, Dr. Avossa spent ten years as a Florida teacher and Principal. In the short time since his 2015 appointment, the School District of Palm Beach County has made many accomplishments under his leadership, including raising 21 elementary schools rated as “D” or “F” schools to a “C” or higher; as well as leading The School District of Palm Beach County to outperform all other large districts in Florida in seven of eleven categories in the state accountability system, including English Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies.
Sponsored by the Bank of Belle Glade, the gatherings are meet and greet events hosted by the Red Cross held on the second Monday at 5:30 p.m., and engage local leaders with the communities they serve. The events are an opportunity for residents to meet personally with local leaders in law enforcement, government, veteran’s affairs and first responders to hear first-hand how they work together to make a difference in their community in an informal and friendly atmosphere.
