JTK Bike Shop plans ride to Palm Beach State College

BELLE GLADE — JTK Bike Shop will celebrate its one-year anniversary in June. A bike ride is planned on Saturday, May 26, to celebrate.

“Our dedicated volunteer and supporter, Anton Pastuszak, is the welding instructor at Palm Beach State College (Belle Glade campus). Anton has created several beautiful metal sculpture art pieces that are being exhibited on the PBSC Belle Glade campus,” said Dawn Donaldson.

“Our JTK family has only seen these works of art in photos and we are excited to tour the Belle Glade campus of the college and enjoy viewing Anton’s work in person.

Special to The Sun
The young folk who are partners in JTK Bike Shop have learned so many new skills. After they work so hard in the shop, they love to end the day riding around the parking lot together as family.

“Our bike riding team will meet at JTK Bike Shop at 233 W. Avenue A, Suite B, Belle Glade, at 4 p.m. The ride is less than three miles to Palm Beach State College campus, where we will spend some time touring the campus and viewing Anton’s sculptures. The JTK team and all those joining us on the ride are invited to return to JTK Bike Shop for refreshments. This event is dependent on weather conditions.”

In case of rain, this event will be rescheduled.

The JTK kids are very proud of their corn! Muck grows the best veggies. They are also growing herbs indoors (hydroponically) and can’t wait to use them in our dinner recipes.

JTK Bike Shop is a nonprofit youth development program. With some training from the adult volunteers, youngsters use parts from old bicycles to build their own bikes. They also help each other build and repair bikes, and recently even started selling bicycles to raise money for the program. After working in the shop, the “JTK family” enjoys cooking and sharing a meal together. They also recently started growing their own garden to produce food for the meals.

JTK Bike Shop also organizes group bike rides, and invites the participants’ families to join in the fun.
