Pahokee resident dies in Wellington fatality

PALM BEACH COUNTY — A 60-year-old Pahokee resident died from injuries received on March 27.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report, on March 27 at 12:51 p.m. a pedestrian, Darrel L. Smith, 60 of Pahokee, was on his bicycle on the east side of the road in the 12500 block of Forest Hill Blvd., in Wellington when he crossed the street into the path of a 2015 Chrysler 200 driven by Bernice L. Alcebo, 55, of Wellington. The Chrysler was traveling north towards the pedestrian, in the inside lane next to the turn lane.

The Pedestrian went onto the hood of the Chrysler and came to a final rest in the left hand turn lane.

Mr. Smith was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital and reportedly died as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash.
