Raise put off for city manager

PAHOKEE — Pahokee city commissioners had a long discussion about the contract with their city manager, Chandler Williamson, during their regular meeting Tuesday night but failed to reach any agreement except on tabling further discussion until their next scheduled regular meeting, on Tuesday, July 24.

A resolution to amend the contract was a last-minute addition. A citizen rose to question what change the city manager was seeking.

“The … largest change is an increase in his salary from $118,000 to $138,000,” City Attorney Gary Brandenburg explained. That’s a 17 percent increase, and several commissioners expressed misgivings about such a large raise, with the mayor saying he thought the commission should make a counteroffer.
