Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County News

PALM BEACH COUNTY – No garbage collection in unincorporated Palm Beach County Thursday or Friday.

Due to the threat of Hurricane Matthew, the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County is suspending the regular collection of garbage, recyclables and yard waste on Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7, in unincorporated Palm Beach County.

There will be no scheduled makeup day in unincorporated Palm Beach County for this missed collection. Residents should expect collection to continue on their regularly scheduled collection days.

Residents are advised not to put debris to the curb if they are not expecting collection service today (Wednesday, Oct. 5). Waste placed curbside during the possible landfall of this storm may put a strain on collection and disposal efforts, and large piles of vegetation and construction debris may be left at the curb while the storm impacts in our area.

The SWA will conduct a damage assessment after the storm and make a determination on any continued facility closures or service cancellations that would be needed through Saturday, Oct. 8.

SWA trails are closed until further notice.

If our area is impacted by the storm, residents are asked to keep their waste and debris piles<> separate:

• Put garbage and recyclables out on your regularly scheduled day.

• Put vegetation only in a second pile, and,

• Put all other storm debris in a third pile.

Be sure to keep these three piles separate and away from power lines, fire hydrants and mailboxes, to help speed our recovery.
