South Bay kids, seniors get a cool new ride

Special to The Sun/Chris Felker

SOUTH BAY — Jennifer Black of U.S. Sugar Corp. (right front) hands over the keys to a 2012 GMC Express passenger van to South Bay City Manager Leondrae Camel (left) on Thursday morning, June 7, at city hall. U.S. Sugar donated the used but well-maintained van, which seats 15, as a gift to benefit the city Parks and Recreation Department’s summer camp and senior program participants. Mr. Camel said the kids and adults will be much happier and cooler traveling to field trips and outings this summer, “considering that they have been traveling on a bus without air conditioning.” He called it a great gift for a city trying to serve its population with limited resources.
