BELLE GLADE — Members of the public are invited to attend the third annual Glades Citizen’s Criminal Justice Academy. Sessions will be held on five consecutive Mondays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on June 4, 11, 18, 25 and July 2 at the Belle Glade Library/Civic Center located at 725 N.W. 4th St. in Belle Glade. The classes are free, and dinner will be served. Anyone over the age of 14 is welcome, and up to 15 hours of community service credit can be earned.
The purpose of the Citizen’s Criminal Justice Academy is to provide fundamental information to citizens of Palm Beach County regarding the criminal justice system and how decisions are made. Participants will see demonstrations, meet with decision makers, and tour the jail. It is a valuable opportunity to learn about procedures, meet experts, ask questions and see facilities in person. The Palm Beach County’s Criminal Justice Commission, Sheriff’s Office, and Office of Community Revitalization sponsor the academy.
The first two years of the academy have been overwhelmingly successful with more than 40 participants graduating. Applications are required.
