A 7-year-old child received gunshot wound

PAHOKEE — A 7-year-old child was shot on Wednesday, Dec. 26, in Pahokee.

A Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office press release stated that 7:34 p.m. deputies responded to a shooting in the 300 block of Shirley Drive in Pahokee.

Upon arrival, deputies located a 7-year-old child suffering from a gunshot wound. The child was transported via trauma hawk to a trauma hospital. At the time of the press release he was reported to be in critical condition.

An updated PBCSO press release received on Thursday, Dec. 27, stated that further investigation has determined that two children inside the home were playing with a loaded handgun and one child subsequently shot the other. The 7-year-old is listed in critical but stable condition.

An updated PBCSO press release received on Saturday, Dec. 29, stated that detectives arrested Frandreka Washington, mother of the child who was shot, on Friday, Dec. 28, on a charge of aggravated neglect of a child.
