Belle Glade man died in Martin County traffic crash

BELLE GLADE — One Belle Glade man is dead and seven Belle Glade passengers received serious injuries when the vehicle they were traveling in overturned on Friday, April 6.

A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) press release stated that at 4:55 a.m. a 2003 Chevrolet Venture driven by Wilbert Janvier, 50 of Belle Glade, was traveling southbound on State Road 9 (I-95) in Martin County. Preliminary investigation determined that the tire blew out on the Chevrolet and Mr. Janvier lost control of the vehicle. The Chevrolet overturned.

It was reported that Mr. Janvier suffered fatal injuries and was confirmed deceased on scene.

All seven passengers received serious injuries sustained in the crash. Passengers traveling in the Chevrolet: Betty Pierre, Lorcius Juste, Lifaite Joassaint, Maria Elliphep, Felix Destin, Joseph Charles and Prosper Charles.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

It is unknown if the passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The investigating officers were FHP Trooper C. Mack, Crash Investigator, and Corporal S. Rudd, Homicide Investigator.
