Belle Glade man died in traffic crash

BELLE GLADE — A 77 year old Belle Glade man died in a early morning crash with a semi on Jan. 3.

A Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) press release stated that at 6:57 a.m. a 2011 Freightliner Cascadia semi trailer truck, driven by Vincent Chimedza, was southbound on the 7200 Block of State Road 15 in Belle Glade in the right lane.

A 2011 Ford F150 truck operated by James McMillan, 77, of Belle Glade, was heading northbound on State Road 15, passing other northbound traffic.

The F-150 struck the Freightliner in the southbound lane, according to the FHP report. According to the FHP report, The semi driver attempted to stop but the F150 struck the Freightliner on the driver’s side just past the front door, and continued in a northbound direction.

After the truck passed the trailer of the semi, it started to skid and struck a guardrail on the west side of the roadway, causing it to jump onto it and skid further. After skidding, the truck left the guardrail and landed on the other side of the rail, where the front of it was partially submerged in the canal.

Mr. McMillan was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Mr. Chimedzar did not receive any injuries.

PBSO investigator J. Cardascia investigated the traffic accident.
