Deputies arrive to find gun battle in progress in Belle Glade

2015-07-14 21.30.32-2In a scene straight out of a movie, deputies with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting only to find a group of men engaged in an all-out gun battle. The bold early evening shootout led to one person receiving a gunshot wound, and an entire street corner being roped off.

It is the latest in a string of shootings that has rocked the Glades communities over the course of a week.

The incident happened at approximately 8:19 p.m. near the corner of Martin Luther King Avenue and Southwest Sixth Street.

According to information released by Teri Barbera, Media Relations director, the deputies arriving to the scene found multiple black males still engaged in a gun battle. Deputies were able to suppress the activity and rescue crews arrived to transport one victim, a man who sustained a superficial gunshot wound to the leg. The man was injured was taken to Lakeside Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Helicopters buzzed above the city while investigators worked into the night cataloguing and recovering evidence from the scene. Numerous readers of The Sun Newspaper reported seeing squad cars speeding in the direction of Pahokee in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.

Presently there is no motive or suspects in connection with the gun battle, as investigators continue piecing together what happened. No other information is being released, with the investigation active and ongoing.
