Drive by shooting suspect arrested; following car pursuit, suspect arrested on foot

A man identified as a possible drive by shooter was apprehended by Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies following a car chase.
The incident happened on Feb. 18 on Southwest Tenth Street in Belle Glade.
According to a report released by the sheriff’s office, deputies responding to a drive by shooting were alerted to a black Ford Focus that could be transporting the suspects. The victim told deputies that her house had been shot at and pointed them to where the car was believed to have fled.
Deputies eventually spotted the car heading west on Southwest Avenue F. The car then made a right turn onto Southwest Fourth Street, at which time deputies activated their emergency lights to attempt a traffic stop. The car sped away after momentarily pulling over, turning onto Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Southwest Second Street, and finally South Main Street, without heeding stop signs along the way.
Deputies caught up with the car, pulling alongside it and getting a look at the driver before the car sped away once more, weaving in and out of traffic. To ensure the safety of motorists nearby, a PBSO sergeant called off the pursuit.
Later, as they continued their search of the car, the two deputies spotted the car parked on Fifteenth Street. The vehicle was reportedly stopped halfway in the yard with all four car doors open.
As Deputies Krammer and Owens exited their vehicles and approached on foot, they noticed three male subjects leaning over the car as though trying to catch their breath, including one man who seemed to match the description of the driver of the car.
The men started to flee on foot after seeing the deputies approaching, and ignored warnings to stop. The deputies chased the subjects behind a home. The suspect, Xavier Polk, appeared to be out of breath and got onto the ground.
A search of the suspect revealed car keys to the Ford Focus and two live .38 special rounds. Deputies recovered an AK-47 from behind the residence where the suspects ran through.
Polk was arrested on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police at high speed, resisting arrest, and violation of probation.
