Hit and run leaves one dead and one critical

 

BELLE GLADE —An update was issued on July 6 at 1:22 p.m. Based on the roadway evidence, it was preliminarily determined that the suspect vehicle is a 2011 white Kia Soul.

A hit and run driver struck two young women on West Sugar House Road on July 6 in Belle Glade.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reported that Katherine Young, 34, of Belle Glade and Mariah Harris, 20, of West Palm Beach were standing outside their vehicle which had broken down on the east side of West Sugar House Road. A vehicle traveling northbound crashed into both pedestrians and the driver’s side of the broken-down vehicle. Both pedestrians were thrown northbound.

The suspect’s vehicle continued northbound and failed to stop to render aid. Based on the roadway evidence, it was preliminarily determined that the suspect vehicle is a 2011 white Kia Soul. The suspect vehicle will have passenger side damage and will be missing the passenger side mirror, headlight and side blinker housing.

It was reported that Katherine Young died and Mariah Harris is in critical condition.
