Pedestrian death Belle Glade

A pedestrian died Saturday in Belle Glade as the result of being struck by a vehicle.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, on Jan. 7 at approximately 7:54 a.m. Ariel Cano, 18, of Belle Glade was driving a 2004 Dodge Durango heading southbound in the 1024 block of S. Main Street, within the left travel lane.

Luis A. Herrera, 66, of Hialeah was attempting to cross from the west to the east across S. Main St. in Belle Glade. As he walked into the southbound lanes, the Durango veered left to try to avoid hitting Mr. Herrera, but Mr. Herrera ran and was struck with the passenger side headlight area. The Durango came to a final rest on the roadway just south of the impact area.

The Durango made a u-turn and returned immediately to the scene.

Mr. Herrera was pronounced deceased by PBC Fire Rescue on scene.
