South Bay teen died in Broward County accident

According to a FHP report on May 6, at 2:51 a.m., on Southbound I-75 a vehicular accident left two dead including a South Bay teen.

North of Sheridan Street in Broward County the driver of a 2013 Kia Optima was traveling southbound on I-75 and struck the rear of a 2012 VW Passat driven by Ricardo Adolfo Hernandez, 19, of Belle Glade, causing the VW Passat to leave the roadway on the west shoulder into a ditch.

The Kia Optima overturned and the driver was ejected from his vehicle into the roadway and may have been struck by other vehicles.

The driver of the Kia Optima was pronounced dead at the scene.

Salvador Diaz, 20, of Belle Glade was a passenger in the VW passat and was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.

Juan Diego Almazan, 18, of Loxahatchee and Andrew Rios, 19, of Belle Glade were also passengers in the VW Passat and reportedly received minor injuries.

Mr. Hernandez reportedly received minor injuries.

The name of the driver of the 2013 Kia Optima has not been released by the FHP at this time.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
