Suspect found in homicide death of Stokes

PALM BEACH COUNTY — According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBCSO) report, Douglas Mackey was identified as the suspect of the Feb. 24 homicide of Gilbert Stokes.

On Feb. 24, PBCSO Deputies were notified by two concerned citizens that they had located a deceased person parked in a vehicle in a nearby industrial park located in the 4700 block of Australian Avenue, Mangonia Park. Deputies responded to the location and discovered a deceased male inside the vehicle with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

The victim of the homicide was identified as Gilbert Stokes, 39, of Belle Glade.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reported on July 21, that their investigation determined that Douglas Mackey, 53, of Loxahatchee was involved in the homicide death of Gilbert Stokes. Mackey is currently being held at the Martin County Jail on unrelated charges.

Once he satisfies Martin County charges he will be booked for Palm Beach County on charges of felony murder in the second degree and home invasion robbery with a firearm.
