Witnesses: Young mother gunned down in Belle Glade

A detective walks through a crime scene in Belle Glade where a young mother was shot and killed by her estranged boyfriend.

A crowd gathered inside the Palm Glades apartments in Belle Glade on Monday morning, where just one hour earlier a man reportedly gunned down a young mother on the upper floor of one of the buildings.
Police cordoned off the eight-unit, two-story, brown brick building, and neighbors and others curious about what happened wondered what set off the deadly attack.
“They said she was 25,” one woman said.
“And he’s 25 too,” her neighbor answered.
“Both of them are young. She had two kids. Her baby, she just had him.”
Officially, very little information is being released in the case, as investigators continue poring over evidence and interviewing witnesses. The information that has been released details only general information associated with the crime: On Monday, November 23, sometime after 6 a.m., deputies were called in to respond to a shots fired call in the 600 block of Palm Glade Drive in Belle Glade. On arrival, deputies found a deceased female. The gunman had since fled.
Nearly three hours after an initial announcement of the shooting death, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office released information pinning the motive of the shooting to a domestic argument.
While emergency crews and medical examiners continued processing evidence, neighbors continued talking about the shooting.
“They say she was hiding out in her mama’s house. He shot at the mama too; she rolled down the stairs and sprained her ankle,” one woman said.
“He put on Facebook he was gonna kill her. And he put up a gun.”
“He hopped in the car and hauled tail. He’s a danger to society.”
A school bus entering the premises struggled to move through the crime scene staging area, and parents tried to steer their children away from the building that was the target of the investigation.
Children looked through the school bus windows to the large scale crime investigation unfolding in front of them.
One young mother fixed her son’s backpack before leading the curious child away.
“This has nothing to do with you,” she told him. “Come on, let’s go.”
