After breaking up with her old boyfriend, a young woman found herself trapped inside the man’s car being attacked and beaten. In order to escape from the man, the woman eventually had to jump out of the moving vehicle, according to information released by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect in the case, 26-year-old Richard Ervin Johnson, who according to the report of the incident is homeless, had reportedly been dating the victim for approximately one year before she ended the relationship in March of last year. Johnson was recently arrested.
After calling police, the woman told investigators she had been exiting a Walgreens in Clewiston when the suspect confronted her in his vehicle and forced her inside against her will. He reportedly began to drive recklessly, speeding in the direction of the city of Belle Glade.
Somewhere on the way, the suspect began to hit the victim in the face with a closed fist when she told him she didn’t want to be with him anymore. Fearing for her life, she attempted to jump out of the moving vehicle when the suspect reportedly grabbed her by the shirt collar to keep her in the passenger seat.
The victim managed to push him away and jumped out of the moving car. He pulled over and pushed her into a puddle of mud and struck her again multiple times with a closed fist.
Arriving deputies observed the victim’s eyes to be swollen shut, with a laceration to her mouth, multiple cuts to her hands and knees and a broken right orbital and sinus bone. Johnson was arrested June 19.
