Gove’s Garden Club rocks!

BELLE GLADE — Gove Elementary School Garden Club completed a beautiful rock garden the week of April 9.

This new project was made possible by funds that Mrs. Gayle Zavala and Mrs. Ellen Smith received from the Palm Beach County Education Foundation, GO TEACH grant.

The grant written by Mrs. Zavala and Mrs. E. Smith, “Building a Better Person for our Planet through S.T.E.A.M,” included rock painting so that all students at Gove Elementary could write or draw a positive message on individual rocks, which would then be placed in our CATS Courtyard Garden area.

Garden Club participants prepare the rocks so that students and staff can write positive quotes on them.

The Rock Garden was also combined with another project, which was the planting of 20 native Florida Wildflower seedlings. The seedlings were acquired through an additional grant, “2017 Seedlings for Schools” acquired by Mrs. Zavala.

Students from the Garden Club were an important part of the work force in laying down the rocks and planting the native plants. In addition, we want to recognize our Fine Arts teachers for coordinating the painting during their classes.

Also, a big thanks goes out to Coach Carril, Ms. Winn, Mrs. Schmidt, Mr. Gali, Mr. Bethel and Mrs. E. Smith. Kudos to Mr. and Mrs. Zavala for overseeing this project.
