Gove Elementary explores the world during Multicultural Night

Multicultural Night was held on Monday, May 14. The theme was “Exploring the Seven Continents.”

Gove’s Steel Band Club, under the direction of music teacher Mr. Bethel, opened up the night with a selection that focused on the many cultures of the world. Each grade group worked with one of the seven continents by teaching students the different cultures, habitats, animals and languages spoken in each region. The students’ work was then displayed in the cafeteria as part of the tour of the seven continents. During the event, students were given a passport to take to each continent’s display. As students and families visited each display, their passport was stamped, and they received souvenirs from that continent. After forty-five minutes of exploration, families enjoyed more performances.

The Glades Central Multicultural Club, sponsored by Mrs. Rose Goldman, presented three selections, Pelea de Gallos (Mexican Dance), Moviendo Las Caderas (Merengue) and Roody Rood Boy (Haitian Carnival). The Learning Connection Band, sponsored by Mrs. M. St. Hilaire, also performed Hot Cross Buns and the Drum Cadence. The last selection of the night was the Butterfly Dance by Gove’s Bangladesh students.

The cafeteria was full of very pleased attendees. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about the many cultures that form our school.

A special thanks to Gove’s administration, staff, parents, students, Glades Central Multicultural Club, Learning Connection and the Bangladesh community that made the Multicultural Night a big success.

Without a doubt, Gove Elementary has the finest parents, students, volunteers and staff.
