Gove Elementary recognized as a Gold Level Everglades Champion School
Gove Elementary has received recognition as a 2018 Gold Level Everglades Champion School! Gove is now one of only fourteen recognized Everglades Champion Schools in the state of Florida. Last school year, Gove Elementary participated in the Everglades Champion Schools Recognition Program for the first time.
This innovative new program is coordinated by the Everglades Foundation, in partnership with the Pine Jog Environmental Education Center of Florida Atlantic University. The Everglades Champion Schools Recognition Program is designed to showcase, recognize, and model exceptional accomplishments of students, faculty, and their schools.
Schools are evaluated by demonstrating progress in five pillars: 1) professional development; 2) integrating Everglades Literacy into the curriculum; 3) inquiry- and project-based learning; 4) Everglades leadership; and 5) innovation.
As a participant in the program, Gove has led the way in supporting Everglades literacy and conservation in the classrooms, on the school campus, and in the community. It is with great pride that Gove demonstrates the efforts the students, teachers, staff, parents, and community partners who are working together to become a model of Everglades stewardship for schools across the state.
Special congratulations to Gove’s Everglades Champion School leaders, Gayle Zavala, Ellen Smith and team in this effort. Gove will always celebrate the school’s status as an Everglades Champion and support its ongoing efforts to educate tomorrow’s stewards of all of the natural treasures!
