Florencio Zavala is nominated Senior Volunteer of the Year

Gove Elementary is proud to announce the nomination of Florencio Zavala as our 2017 Senior Volunteer of the Year. Mr. Zavala has been a volunteer at Gove Elementary and the Glades community for over 16 years. He is always willing to wear a variety of “hats.” Currently, Mr. Zavala is using his carpentry skills and garden knowledge to assist the 789 students at Gove with the newly created Butterfly Garden. He built screened butterfly houses and a small “Information Station” to bring learning outside for the entire school. He has worked side by side with students to plant and water flowers and maintain the garden. He is always teaching and motivating our students. He has also assisted teachers with their lessons about plants and butterflies. The students are always excited to work and learn when Mr. Zavala is on campus. Because of his work, he helped Gove Elementary earn recognition as a Green School of Quality this year.
