Palm Beach County School District Weekly Update

PALM BEACH COUNTY — Here’s a look ahead at what’s coming next week in the School District:

Education Forecast 2017 will be Thursday, March 9 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. Dr. Avossa will be giving his State of the Schools presentation addressing important issues impacting education. There will student representatives from various programs in our schools and Leadership Awards given to Bill Bone and Eric Kelly.

Poinciana STEM At last weekend’s First Lego League Robotics event at Boynton Beach High School, the Poinciana STEM TAZ Bots team beat out 45 other teams of elementary and middle school students to be named Grand Champions. They’ve earned themselves an invitation to represent South Florida at the First LEGO League’s World Festival in Houston this April. This is very exciting for these fourth and fifth graders, who are also going to the state championships this month. Pahokee MS and Lake Worth MS also earned an invitation to states. Now the fundraising is underway.

Lake Shore MS Principal honored Dr. Anthony Lockhart, principal of Lake Shore MS has been named the JM Family Enterprises as a 2017 African-American Achiever. Dr. Lockhart will be honored at the 2017 African-American Achievers Awards ceremony on April 26 at the Broward County Convention Center. Dr. Lockhart, you may recall, was named our 2016 Principal of the Year for among other things, his ability to transform Lake Shore MS from an F to a C in one school year.
