Schoolteachers may be receiving raises

Teachers who work for the School District of Palm Beach County will be receiving a two-percent raise, if the agreement is approved by school members at their June 17 meeting.

A tentative agreement was formed between the school board and members of the Classroom Teachers Association on Tuesday, June 2.

If approved by the board on June 17, the raises will be retroactive to March 2. The agreement also raises the starting salary of first-year teachers to $39,500.

“We are pleased that we were able to find common ground and provide our teachers a modest increase with the limited funds available this school year,” said School Board Chairman Chuck Shaw in a press release issued June 3.

“The School Board is committed to adopting a budget for the upcoming 2015-16 school year that includes a reserve to further improve employee compensation.”

The negotiating team included principals from a Palm Beach County elementary, middle and high school, as well as district administrative employees.

The team worked over the past four months to reach an agreement.
