Glades Day Coach Eric Pitts said he thought his Gators played well in all three phases of the game in their big win, 41-6, over Florida Christian on Sept. 8.

He said he hopes for more of the same this week when the Gators visit Miami Country Day.

“Our offense continued to get better with five touchdowns. Quarterback Alex Mineo looked sharp as he connected on three touchdown passes, (two to Jorge Acosta and one to Christian Ellison), and the running game was also successful.”

Markens Pierre scored two touchdowns and Rett Lohmann added a rushing touchdown. Cross Onega was tough at the fullback spot as he rushed for over 100 yards.

Pitts was also encouraged that the defense tossed a shutout until late in the game. He said Michael Burrack had a good game with two sacks.

Glades Day also excelled on special teams as Ellison punted well, and returned a punt for a touchdown. Lorenzo Powe blocked a bunt that set up another Gator score.

“Everybody got a chance to play and I thought everybody competed until the game was over. I’m very proud of the guys for their performance,” Pitts added.

The Spartans of Miami Country Day are off to a slow start at (0-2). They are coached by Sean Hill. They lost to St. Andrews last week, 49-0, and gave up over 200 yards rushing. They opened the season with a 34-0 loss to Coral Shores. They play in the Southeastern South Football Conference. Key players for the Spartans include quarterbacks Cole Boucher and Matthew Kaye, and running back Hector Estupinan, who has 100 yards rushing this year, 7.1 per rush. The passing game has not impressed. Kaye threw for 63 yards last week which included a 43-yard toss to Liam Weil. The Spartans defense is led by Zachary Weinberg with 16 tackles, and Colten Katcher and Griffin Sennett who both have 14 tackles this year.

The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, at Miami Country Day High School located at 601 N.E. 107th St. in Miami. There is an admission charge.
