Glades Central looks to end a two game losing streak Friday, Sept. 9, when they host the Atlantic Eagles, (2-0). The Raiders come off consecutive tough losses to Palm Beach Lakes 16-13, and at home Friday to American Heritage Delray Beach 37-32.
The Raiders had trouble stopping American Heritage quarterback Cameron Smith who had four rushing touchdowns Friday. Smith was especially tough around the goal line with 20 carries for 83 yards. Luis Gonzales also broke out for a 35 yard run and had 95 yards rushing on the night. Smith also hit Jarques McClellion with a touchdown pass.
Glades Central again had too many fumbles. Quantino Allen lost the ball at the Stallions seven yard line on one drive. Jeffrey Mosley fumbled deep in Raider territory at the four yard line that led to another American Heritage score.
James Blackman did his best to keep the Raiders in the game with two touchdown passes and a 10 yard rushing touchdown. He threw for 285 yards as he completed 19-34 passes. Demetrius Martin and Rodrick Martin caught touchdown passes for the Raiders.
Atlantic was off last week and is ranked second in the Palm Beach Post weekly poll. The Eagles opened the season with a 39-7 victory over West Boca Raton and pounded Wellington 42-21.
Atlantic is averaging over 40 points per game in the first two weeks and was able to defeat Glades Central last year 26-7 as they went undefeated in the regular season. Zavion Thomas single handily defeated West Boca as he rushed for 236 and four scores and threw two touchdown passes to Shannardo Houston in that game. Marquis Waters has committed to Duke University.
Friday’s, Sept. 16, game is hosted by Glades Central at Dr. Effie Grear Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. There is a charge for parking and admission.
