BELLE GLADE – After a brutal start to the schedule, the Glades Central Raiders get a breather when they host district opponent Somerset Academy of Pembroke Pines on Friday, Sept. 30.
The Panthers (1-4) figure to have little to no hope in this game. They lost to District 4A-7 opponent University 72-0 and to Champagnat Catholic 55-0 in the last two games. The Panthers lost to Gulliver Prep 56-6, and Cornerstone Christian 12-6 and won their first game of the season, 28-24 over Aukela Christian Military Academy.
The Raiders come in off a 38-28 victory at Palm Beach Central last week. The Raiders defense was tough when it had to be. John Morris had several tackles in the backfield and a quarterback sack.
Siurpry Rinvil had a nice night in the passing game for the offense. Dejuan Miller took a swing pass 43 yards and quarterback James Blackmon was well protected in the pocket by the Raiders offensive line. Offensive guard Wilkevious Davis had a strong night on the line.
Key players for the Panthers include Evan Turner, Joseph Lancia, Tre Lawrence, Kareem Ritch and Zamar Miller.
The Raiders have continued to improve and would love a win going into their bye week. The Raiders started the season with a 16-0 victory over Royal Palm Beach, then lost two tough games to Palm Beach Lakes 16-13 and American Heritage 37-32, before victories over Atlantic 14-13 and last week over the Broncos. After giving up 16 points in the first quarter, the Raiders dominated the game Friday and should be able to do the same from the start on Friday.
The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Dr. Effie Grear Field in Belle Glade.
