Glades Central Raiders to play Palm Beach Lakes

BELLE GLADE – The Raiders used a stout defense and just enough offense to defeat Royal Palm Beach 16-0 in the season opener last Friday, Aug. 26.

They traveled to Military Trail in West Palm Beach Friday to take on an often talented Palm Beach Lakes Rams team.

The Rams won their season opener 24-20 over Lake Worth, the team that the Raiders tied two weeks ago, 13-13 in their kickoff exhibition game.

The 7A Rams come off a (3-8) season. They were unafraid to pass the ball last week as they threw it 27 times. QB Armani Edden completed 11 passes, to six different targets, for 231 yards and two touchdowns.

The Rams didn’t have much going in the run game as Jalen Wright was their top runner with 48 yards on 13 carries in week one.

Cliff Thomas is the Rams top receiver with four catches last week for 104 yards.

Quarterback James Blackman threw 24 touchdown passes last year and recently committed to play at Florida State University. He had two touchdown passes and week one and also had a rushing touchdown called back by penalty. He had several pinpoint passes dropped, ran the offense well and also showed off his legs as a scrambling quarterback when needed. He has a deep and talented receiver corps to throw to tonight in Quantino Allen, Gerald Jackson and Trey Green. James Davis showed he was a threat in the return game. Linemen Wisly Edouard and Adrian Lockhart had several crushing blocks on the offensive line.

Rodrick Martin, Thuran Smith and the rest of the Raider defense should have outstanding success all season as they disrupt opposing offenses with speed and power.

Friday’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. There is a charge for parking and admission.
