Local high schools will be busy this week as spring football will take center stage with four games this week and one game next week.
Clewiston Tiger football held their inter-squad scrimmage Friday, May 12, at Cane Field. Coach Pete Walker said the team had some good signs and some not so good. He expressed confidence that the team will be ready for the jamboree this Thursday, May 18, at Hollywood McCarthy. The kickoff is at 6 p.m.
The Tigers won a District Title last year and should have a strong team in the fall.
Glades Day football will host Miami LaSalle on Thursday, May 18, at 6 p.m. Coach Eric Pitts said the team got a late start due to some of his players were still playing baseball. He said the time of the game could be moved up into the afternoon. The Gators lost a few key players but are no longer independent and plan to be a district contender in the fall.
Seventy-five players have been competing day in and day out this month at Glades Central Raider football practice. Coach Jessie Hester said the major decisions were finding a new starting quarterback and finding starters on the offensive and defensive lines. They held their inter-squad scrimmage last Friday, May 12, afternoon. Even in an off season in 2016, the Raiders still had at least eight players sign college scholarships to play football.
The Raiders play a spring game this Friday, May 19, at Palm Beach Gardens High School at 7 p.m.
Coach Hester said the spring practices has went well and he’s anxious to see how the Raiders play on Friday.
Moore Haven football has had 40 players at practice this month. They will host a jamboree this Saturday, May 20, at 6 p.m.
Pahokee is scheduled to play a jamboree at home against Lake Worth on Friday, May 26, at 6 p.m.
